BARLA CHAIR SUE TAYLOR AWARDED MBE BY KING CHARLES 111 IN HIS FIRST OFFICIAL BIRTHDAY HONOURS

BARLA are pleased to announce that as the organisation continues to celebrate its 50th Anniversary, that its Chair Sue Taylor has been awarded the MBE by King Charles 111 for her services to rugby league.

Sue the first woman and longest serving Chair of BARLA is also the current RFL Vice President for eighteen months which began last year.

Sue Taylor said,

“For once in my life and no-one who knows me will believe me, I was speechless when I received the letter and opened it. The first thing I thought was that they had sent it to the wrong address when it said I had been awarded the MBE. I am honoured to receive this award on behalf of the amateur game.”

“On behalf of the BARLA, the BARLA Board of Management & Trustees I would like to congratulate the BARLA Chair Sue Taylor who has been awarded an MBE, for her services to Rugby League Football by King Charles 111 in his first Official Birthday Honours announced yesterday, as BARLA continues to celebrate its 50th Anniversary.

“It tops an amazing twelve month period in her busy life when she was appointed as the RFL Vice President for eighteen months, the first person in BARLA to be invited to hold the position, and was the 50th person to be inducted by the RFL onto the RFL Roll of Honour.

“Sue the first woman to be ever appointed into the role of chair of BARLA in 2013, is the longest serving person in that role now having been in the position for a decade.

“Sue has held numerous positions in the amateur game was first introduced into the game by her now husband John in 1973 and has been involved in the game as an unpaid volunteer for 50 years, and was taken under the wing of Tom Keaveney MBE a founder member of BARLA.

“Sue daily puts 48/7 and 200% dedication into the cause of the amateur game in her various capacities going above and beyond, doing the unsung dirty cumbersome work on behalf of clubs to ensure the smooth various running of respective leagues and cup competition and he phone normally starts ringing from 7am to 11pm.

“Sue was one of a number of women who were added to the sport’s Roll of Honour last year in recognition of the significant and often underappreciated contribution that women have made to Rugby League over almost 130 years, and Sue is the ultimate unsung hero, having devoted countless hours to the amateur game in Huddersfield and through the British Amateur Rugby League Association.”
